We are fully committed to ensuring our clients' success
The Caulfield Consulting Group and its partners have extensive consulting experience as well as direct leadership experience in a variety of industries and at multiple levels of government.
Founder and President R. Erich Caulfield has worked in both the public and private sectors. Before founding The Caulfield Consulting Group, Erich served as the New Orleans Team Lead for the Obama White House's Strong Cities, Strong Communities (SC2) Initiative, which was a new partnership between the federal government and several cities across the country. Embedded in the Mayor’s Office in New Orleans, and based locally out of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Erich coordinated an interagency team with representatives from 14 federal agencies that worked closely with the Mayor’s Office on a variety of initiatives.
During Erich’s tenure in New Orleans as SC2 Team Lead, the Team helped: unlock $4 million in new roadway enhancement/construction jobs; reduce the number of emergency room patients waiting to get psychiatric treatment by approximately 25%; prevent substantial layoffs in the City’s health clinic system; and find housing for nearly 70 homeless individuals.
Prior to moving to New Orleans, Erich was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as a White House Fellow, working at the White House Domestic Policy Council. In this role, he co-led the design of the $2.5 billion Growth Zones program that would provide distressed communities across the country with tax incentives and investment expensing to spur job creation in low-income areas; the program was featured in the President’s FY 2012 budget proposal.
Prior to federal service, Erich was the Chief Policy Advisor to former Newark, NJ Mayor Cory Booker and to the Business Administrator. Before entering government service, he worked in management consulting as an Associate at McKinsey & Company, focusing on process design and public sector-related projects.
Erich is currently serving on the City's Economic Development (New Orleans Business Alliance) Board of Directors; the Board of Directors for the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute; and in July of 2019, began a term as the 125th President of MIT's Alumni Association, where he represents the university's 138,000 alumni/ae, and rejoins MIT's Board of Trustees. For his work in the City, Erich has been featured on Gambit Magazine's List of 40 Under 40, given the New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute's Award for Outstanding Contribution to Public Policy, and was selected to serve as Director of Policy Development for New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell's Transition Team.
Erich received a PhD and MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT and a BS, Phi Beta Kappa, in Physics and Mathematics from Morehouse College.
